We sadly mourn the passing of Chista Shirazi in the early hours of November 26, 2011 at Christopher House, Austin.

Chista was born to proud parentsProfessor Ahmad Afshar Shirazi (father) and Dr. Aghdas (Agnes) Nowpour Ashrafi (mother) on November 14, 1958 in Teheran, Iran.
Born into a family of renowned scholars and academics, Chista's formative years were spent in a home filled with books, music and paintings and Chista herself went on to become an accomplished pianist and ballet dancer.

Chista was also a proficient athlete, an expert skier, ice skater and a dedicated competitive swimmer.
She moved to the US in 1976 to pursue higher education at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Microbiology.

Chista married Kazem Shirazi in 1982 and together they made Austin their home. They were blessed with two daughters, Sara, born in 1982 and Neda, born in 1993.

Chista was the bedrock of the Shirazi household. A devoted wife and mother, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the upbringing of her daughters and she took immense pride as she watched Sara and Neda grow and flourish.

A change of career led Chista to the Austin Community College where she worked for seventeen years. She was the Payroll Manger at the college where she oversaw, among other things, the implementation of an electronic payroll system. She will be remembered not only for her dedication to the employees of Austin Community College but also for her endurance in ACC's Boot Camp and Zumba classes.

Chista Shirazi was a great inspiration to those who knew her. While she was determined and direct in her work, she was also sympathetic and kind. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her smile, strength and dedication.

Chista is survived by husband Kazem, daughters Sara and Neda, her mother Aghdas (Agnes), and brothers Mani, Behrouz and Rouzbeh Afshar Shirazi.
