Derrick D. Hunt

Derrick Hunt was born March 5, 1978 to Eddie Simmons and Geraldine Hunt, in Austin, Texas. He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age.

Derrick "Boobie" was always a leader, and some would say an instigator. Even as a child, he would start things, whether it was to bug his brothers and cousins, or to plan the group's activities. Derrick's interest in sports, especially football, started at a young age. It delighted him to have a neighborhood or school team, just so he was involved in the sport. Later he would excel at all sports in middle and high school, playing various positions. Derrick graduated from Del Valle High School in 1996. Another of Derrick's pastimes and hobbies was music – whether listening to it or playing his guitar or keyboard.

Following high school graduation, Derrick joined the U.S. Army. It was during this period that he further developed his leadership skills and also became very organized and focused. Derrick was injured while serving and training as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged in 1999. Derrick was smart, independent and very ambitious. He earned a B.S. degree from Texas State University in Criminal Justice. He was business-minded and pursued many entrepreneurial endeavors. His aspiration and dream was to obtain a PhD and become a professor. At the time of his departure, he was planning to pursue his Master's degree.

Derrick was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him. Derrick was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish fond memories: two brothers, Darrell (Beth) Hunt and Durron Hunt of Austin; two nephews, D.J. and Adam Hunt of Austin; his aunts and uncles who loved him dearly, Kathryn, Carolyn (Carl), Booker, Billy (Virginia), Bobby, Loma (Louis); a host of relatives and friends.
