Harold "Poppi" Fosque, Sr.

Harold L Fosque Sr. was the fourth child born to the union of Martin L. Fosque and Gertrude Ewell Fosque in Philadelphia, PA, July 8, 1936. He was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ at the Miller Memorial Baptist Church and was baptized on February 14, 1954 by the late Rev. J. Luke Jones.

Harold graduated from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA. After high school he joined the United States Air Force. During his military travels he met and married the love of his life Annabelle White on August 20, 1958. To this union four children were born. He served his country at the following stations; Pease Air Force Base - Portsmouth, NH, Blytheville Air Force Base - Blytheville, AR, Elmendorf Field - Anchorage, AK, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX, and a tour in Vietnam. He served honorably and retired with 20 years of service as a TSGT. His last duty station was Bergstrom Air Force Base which brought his family to Austin, Texas in July 1972.

Harold always remembering his relationship with God, united with St. James Baptist Church in September 1972 under the late Rev. E. M. Franklin and continued under Dr. B. W. McClendon. He was faithful in serving in the choir for a number of years, on the finance committee, Deacon Board, and the Culinary staff.

Harold's civilian years took him to Anderson High School where for a number of years he worked as a hall monitor and served as a mentor to many. Loving to be around people he moved on to United Parcel Service and ultimately he retired from Federal Express Corporation after 10 years of dedicated service.

Harold & Ann's home was always open to anyone and everyone that dropped by for lunch/dinner or just a cool drink. This tradition started many years ago and continued after the home going of Ann. His home truly exemplified Matthew 25:35: "For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in

Harold had an attraction for bowling and on several different days of the week you would find him in Westgate Lanes or Dart Bowl trying to get that 300 game. His magnetic personality led him to serve as President of the Package Power league from 1979-1984. He participated in many state and national tournaments. He loved to tell people about his best game of 291 and a 791 series.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, son - Kenneth Wayne, parents, sisters - Sadie and Betty Fosque, brother - Martin L. Fosque, Jr., brother-in-law - Milan Hawkins, sisters-in-law - Claudia White and Jean Fosque.

Harold is survived by his children, Harold L Fosque Jr. (Alma), Arnita Henson (Floyd), Andrea Smith (Auandre); grandchildren, Dawn Hawkins (John), Nicole Fosque, Martin Fosque, Carolyn Fosque, Alyssa Smith, Analicia Smith, great grandchildren Jasmine, Braylon, Brandon, LaDontae, Dayvion Deundre all of Austin, TX; sister- in-law, Sandra Hawkins of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law, Willie White of Bakersfield, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, adopted children and friends.
