Adelle Dunlap was born in Paris, Tennessee on June 09, 1933 to the union of Earl Dunlap and Erma Lee House Dunlap. She was taught at an early age by her parents to love the Lord thy God and to respect the House of the Lord. Encouraged always to live by precepts and examples, Adelle gave her life to Christ at the age of eleven and united with the Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Cottage Grove, Tennessee under Rev. A. Allen and was baptized in Bro. Wilson Todd's pond.

On January 28, 1950, she married James Vernell Henry and to this union one daughter was born, Daffney Alice Henry. She was a loving and devoted mother who always provided for and put the needs of her child first. In 1952 she moved to Murray, Kentucky and united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. C. E. Martin, Pastor serving as an Adult Sunday School teacher, Church Chorus member and Pianist, member of the Missionary Society, Hospitality and Pastor's Aide committees. In later years, Adelle united with the Hardin Baptist Church, Bro. Ricky Cunningham, Pastor. She served as a member of the Extreme Makeover Sunday School Class and was often requested to sing special songs for the congregation.

Due to health issues, in 2008 Adelle relocated to Austin, Texas to live with her daughter and in 2009 united with the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. A. W. Anthony Mays, Pastor. Throughout her life she encountered many challenging battles and survived several major life-threatening illnesses. No matter what happened in her life, she always remained faithful to her God believing and trusting in Him; constantly praying that His Will be done in her life. Adelle always had time to talk about the goodness of Jesus to anyone who would listen. She would offer words of encouragement to lift one's spirit or perform unexpected acts of kindness. Adelle passionately loved her family and others. She was loved, respected and affectionately known as "Mother Adelle" to many.

Preceding her in death, her mother Erma Lee Dunlap; father Earl Dunlap; two sisters, Surena Lee Dunlap and Earline Dunlap Henry; one brother James Arthur Dunlap, Sr.; one nephew Ronnie Lavern Ellis. She leaves to cherish her beloved memory a devoted daughter, Daffney Alice Henry; brothr Raymond Lee Dunlap; two nieces Peggy Ruth Hutcherson Wilson and Nicole Dunlap; five nephews Bobby Jewel Ellis, O.
