Jo Shazean Martin was born on June 8, 1964 to Robert L. Pettis and Mary J. Earl Pettis in Austin, Texas.

Jo accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She united with the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend E. L. Roberts.

Jo later joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church where she actively served as a member of the Minister’s Wives and faithfully in the Music Ministry for almost twenty years.

Jo was united in holy matrimony to William Martin Jr. on February 21, 1995. When he became the pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Luling, TX in 2009, Jo joined his vision and immediately began to work in several ministries of the church. She served as President of the Women’s Ministry and was very active in the Music Department and the Nursing Home Ministry. Jo had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Jo loved to dress and was the epitome of an elegantly dressed minister’s wife whenever she stepped out!
Jo has three daughters from a previous marriage. She is preceded in death by her daughter, LaShonda Yvette Spence and her sister Andrea Danita Pettis.

Jo passed away on September 30, 2011 at 4:09 a.m. in Austin, Texas.
