Mr. James Haywood Reed was born June 6, 1954 in Austin, Texas to the union of Herbert Reed, Sr. and Josephine Manor Reed. He was the ninth child of thirteen children. He attended the Austin Independent School District, Austin, Texas.

At an early age he professed a hope in Christ at St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend B. D. Hansbrough. He later united with St. Louis Dream Center, Pastor Jeff and Jamie Allensworth, founder Joyce Meyer.

He was employed as a groundskeeper for many years at Austin High School before moving to Garland, Texas. He later moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he was employed as a shipping clerk at Amcon Laboratories for nine years.

He departed this life July 23, 2011.

He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Reed, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Valerie Reed of St. Louis, Missouri; his mother Josephine Manor Reed of Austin, Texas; his daughter Kenya Gooden of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Ariel Wilson, Jordan Dunn, and Ayden Reed Metcalf, all of Austin, Texas; eight sisters Rebecca Dixon (Horace Sr.), Doris Evans, Joe Etta Davis, Mary Lott, Delores Bryant (Robert), Bertha Reed, Stella Houston and Sharon Hill, all of Austin, Texas; four brothers Herbert Reed, Jr. (Barbara), Howard Reed (Elbra), Donald Reed, and Charles Reed, Sr., all of Austin, Texas; four stepdaughters, Arcynthia, Lisa, Antionette, and Annette, all of St. Louis, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
