Rickie Gene James, Sr. was born May 20, 1954, the third child of Nettie Mae Kimble and Foster Kimble, and step father Oliver James, Sr. Rickie was born in Beaumont, Texas and relocated to Austin. He professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Clarksville, Texas.

Rickie attended Johnston High School of Austin, Texas. He served his country as a soldier in the United States Army for a few years. Upon discharge Rickie was employed with the City of Austin for many years.

In September 1972 he met June Ann Wooley. They later married on February 1, 1974 and with this union there were three children born of this marriage.

He was preceded in death by his father Foster Kimble, Jr., brother Oliver James, Jr. and a son Franklin Cavanaugh, Sr. Rickie leaves to cherish precious memories his loving wife of 37years, June James; children Rickie James, Jr. (Ronnicelyn), Electra James (David), Natalie James, and Paul Hervey of Austin, Texas; five sisters, Lois Kimble, Linda Narcissus (Cliff) of Houston, Texas, Juanita Kimble (John) of Cedar Creek, Texas, Irma James and Sonya McCray (Lee); six brothers, Jerry James, Sr. (Wandra) of Dallas, Texas, Dover Kimble (Paula) of Port Arthur, Texas, Randolph Kimble and Steve Kimble of Austin, Texas, Jackie James, Jerome James and Ronald James (Alice) of Beaumont, Texas; eight grandchildren; uncle Marvin Jones (Paulette) of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
