Sandra Joyce (Brawley) Ellison was born July 9, 1957 in Lockhart, Texas to Johnnie L. Brawley, Sr. who preceded her in death and Zelma I. (Kelley) Brawley.

She professed a love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. James A.M.E. Church in Lockhart, where she served as church secretary for many years. She later united with East Nineteenth Street Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until the time of her death.

She was educated in Caldwell County area schools, graduating from Lockhart High School, and later Durham’s Business College. She was employed by and retired from Texas Workforce Commission in Austin, Texas with 30+ years of service. During her employment she was an active member of the African American Cultural Society (AACS) where she served as treasurer, events coordinator, historian, and secretary and was a charter member after her retirement. She was also an active participant with the Texas Workforce Commission Employees Committee during her tenure. She was vice-president of the Patient Advocacy Group at Moncrief Dialysis Unit. She was a member of the Red Hat Society during her stay at Riverside Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

She was married to and later divorced Frank Ellison, Jr. To this union no children were born.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Mother - Zelma Brawley; sisters – Sharon Wilson (Clemon), Margie Franks (Marcus), Marilyn Brawley and Barbara Jackson (Lester); Brothers – Johnnie Brawley, Jr. and Harold Brawley; Nieces – Kashunya (Brawley) Wilson, Kimberly (Wilson) Shepard, Atoya Brawley, LaToya Brawley, Desiree Franks, Denay Franks and Leslie Jackson; Nephews – Kelvin Wilson and DeMarcus Franks; Dear Family Friends – Lena Ellis, Dian Sims and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sandra dedicated her life to her family and friends. She touched so many lives with her kind smile, warm spirit and always had positive words to share with whomever she met. She never complained.
