Beulah Mae Fennell

Mrs. Beula Mae Roberts-Fennell (also affectionately called Sister and GG) was born on September 11, 1914 to Levoy Roberts and Malinda Haynes Roberts at her grandmother’s house on Dannaly Road in Lockhart (Caldwell County), Texas. She attended the Rural Caldwell and Bastrop County School and was one of the first graduates of the Old L.C. Anderson High School GED Program.

Mrs. Fennell worked as UT Health Center as a nurse’s aide from 1957-1967, a domestic worker for Rev. Malcolm P. Riker and family for 21 years and a nursery school teacher at Greater Union Baptist Church until retirement. In 1946 she became a member of Greater Mt. Zion BC under Rev J.H. Washington, Rev N.W. Bacon and Pastor Gaylon Clark where she served 35 years over Mission I Circle Esther and also joined the Order of the Eastern Star Lettie Madison #146 PHA in 1947.

Her hobbies included reading the Bible and the New York Times and finishing the daily crossword puzzle in the Statesman. She also loved “celebrating the 19th of June St. John Colony Style” with her immediate and extended family from all around.

Words of wisdom from Mrs. Fennell: “The Lord gives stability to the nation. He always protects His people and gives them wisdom and knowledge. Their greatest treasure is their reverence for the Lord.” (Isaiah 33:6)

Mrs. Fennell is proceeded in death by 4 brothers; Manual C. Roberts, Thomas O. Roberts (T.O), Robert E.L. Roberts (Bob) and Rev. L.M. Roberts (Levie), 1 sister; Fairiece L. Roberts (6mos), her only child; E. Malinda Franks-Sears, husband; Ross W. Fennell and her cousin (like a sister); Ola L. Sneed.

Surviving family: Brother; Robert E. Roberts (John) of Chicago, IL; Grandchildren; Beverlyn D. Sears, Shelly A. Sears, Michael A. Sears, Tarl D. Sears; Great-grandchildren; Danelle A. Roberson, Janci M. Roberson, Thedencia L. Sears, Marcus A. Dunn, Shaunice A.L. Peebles, Isaiah D. Harris; Great great-grandchildren; Danielle A. Roberson, Forever MiJoi Roberson, Fierlis MiKing Roberson, Jayden Roberson. She also has 7 nieces and 6 nephews.
