Raymond Walcott Buchanan McPhaul was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 25, 1951, the oldest of three children to the parentage of Peggy L. Halens-McPhaul and Ray Walcott Buchanan McPhaul.

He attended the Old L. C. Anderson High School and later joined the United States Army in 1973, where he served for eight years as a defense artillery specialist. He received exemplary medals of honor for his contributions to the military. He also worked for Seton Medical Center and Yellow Cab Company for many years.

Raymond united with Wesley United Methodist Church at a very early age.

On Saturday, March 19, 2011, before the brink of dawn, God called Raymond from his earthly home to a rest from his labor.

His father, Ray McPhaul, preceded him in death.
Raymond leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Raymond McPhaul, Jr. of Austin, Texas; mother, Peggy McPhaul of Austin, Texas; a very special loving and devoted friend, Linda Hill of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Mamie McPhaul of Phoenix, Arizona and Tina McPhaul-Chambers (Sam) of Austin, Texas; a brotherly bond with J. R. Niles (Melinda) of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
