Sammie (Big Sammie) Shuler

On the 16th day of September 1931, in the Community of Bastrop County, Texas, Sammie Shuler was born to James and Louisa Clark Shuler. He attended Austin Public Schools. He confessed his love and hope in Christ Jesus at an early age at the Ulit Avenue Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. W. M. Webb. He remained a member of Ulit Avenue Missionary Baptist Church until his home going.

On November 7, 1962, Sammie united in Holy Matrimony to Ethel Mae Campbell. To this union five children were born. He worked for the City of Austin until his retirement.

He departed this life for eternal rest on Friday, march 18, 2011.

Sammie was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Shuler; parents Louisa and James Shuler; brothers, Samuel Shuler (Twin), Ernest Shuler, James Shuler, Johnny Shuler, Nathaniel Shuler, Arthur Shuler; sisters, Birdie V. Neely, Callie Shuler, Virginia S. Simms, Pearlie Watters and Beulah M. Williams; sons, Harry Lee Campbell, Lou Gene Campbell; grandson, Jeffrey B. Hicks; great grandson, Kevin Marquelle Brockington.

Sammie leaves to cherish his memories: sons, Sammy Dewayne Shuler, Robin Morgan, Rickey Morgan of Austin, Texas, Marion Morgan of Houston, Texas; daughters, Wanda N. Shuler, Shirley E. Shuler, Marilyn L. Shuler, Edith Y. Shuler, Rachel M. Shaw, JoAnne C. Bell of Austin, Texas, Barbara R. Evans (Erick) of Wellington, Florida, and Janet M. Green (Howard) of Houston, Texas; brother, Rev. Walter Shuler, Sr. (Dorothy) of Manor, Texas; sisters, Ora Lee Parks (Herman) of Lexington, Texas, and Lorine Burditt of Los Angeles, California; 41 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
