Annie Marie Mays, 84, took her place amongst our Heavenly Father on February 5, 2011. Known as a loving mother to so many, she was the ninth child born to the late Burley and Roxie Burton on July 9, 1926 in Cox's Providence, Texas. In July of 2010, her husband, Mitchell May Sr., of 64 years preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her son, Mitchell Mays Jr. and all of her siblings: Selma, Nancy Pauline, Lula Ann, Juanita, John, Olivia, Calvin Coolidge, and Clarence Clifton.

Annie Marie attended schools in Milam County and graduated from Milano High School in 1943. After graduation, she relocated to Austin, Texas. and enrolled at Tillotson College. She left Tillotson College as an English Major. She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life Mitchell Mays Sr. on September 15, 1946 and to this union they were blessed with seven children: Mitchell Jr., Nancy, John, Alfred Belvin, Helen, Rosalyn and Linda.

She was a hard worker! While studying in college, she served as a Substitute Teacher for the AISD schools. She was a faithful employee for more than 30 years with the Austin Independent School District in Cafeteria Management. Early in her career, she was served as Area Supervisor for AISD. She spent the bulk of her career and retired as a Food Service Manager. She worked alongside her husband at Green Pastures as a Culinary Specialist, where she served a multitude of celebrities and Politicians. She also founded a successful family cleaning business, 3M Bar-B-Que catering service, and Mays Real Estate Company and Property Management.

More than anything, Annie Marie, loved the Lord, professing her love for Christ at an early age. She was a devoted member for 68 years at Metropolitan AME Church. At the time of her death, she was under the leadership of Pastor N. Jordan Mkwanazi. She had an unconditional love for all of God's children. This led her to serve in several ministries including but not limited to teaching Sunday School, Women's Ministry, and Mission. In the final months of her life, she began expressing a vision that the Lord had placed upon her heart in regards to mentoring young African American men. Her children have a heartfelt dedication to bringing this into fruition.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Nancy Tolbert (Edward) of Austin, John Mays (Linda) of Austin, Alfred Mays (Janine) of Manor; Helen Leffall (Edwin) of Duncanville, Roz Davis (Ralph) of Round Rock and Linda Henderson of Austin. She also leaves four loving Sisters in Law, Mary Burton, Dorothy Burton, Rose Ellen Banks, and Jean Poole, as well as her beautiful grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, countless special friends and "Peaches," her precious grandbaby dog.

Next to the Father in Glory……..with feet bare, hands raised, praise on her lips and her tambourine in her hand. Can't you see her?
