Carrie Beatrice Miller Yancy was born February 2, 1920 to the late Solomon Miller, Jr. and Cornelia Ann Miller in Navasota, Texas. She united with Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend P.H.Jackson.

Carrie attended Navasota Public Schools. She matriculated at Mary Allen College, Crockett, Texas; Tillotson College, Austin, Texas; followed by a Masters degree from Prairie View, A&M University. Her post graduate work was at the University of Texas at Austin.

She relocated to Austin and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and willing worker until her extended illness.

She had an extraordinary fondness for children and teaching. Her early teaching experience was a George Washington Carver High School in Navasota. She taught in the Austin Independent School District until her retirement.

Her community involvement included political activities, and various professional, civic, service and social organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Carrie departed this life on January 15, 2011 at 12:20am. Her devoted husband, Henry L.C. Yancy, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sisters, Solomon Etta Beck of Houston, Texas The Honorable Christine M. Jones, of Temple Hills, Maryland, one brother, Harold Miller of San Antonio, Texas; brother-in-law Prince Albert Johnson of Austin, Texas, in addition, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
