James was born in Elgin, Texas on May 21, 1949 to the late Samuel and Lula Mae Hendricks. James accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Baptist church.

James received his formal education in the Elgin School District. He married the love of his life, Sally Lee, they were married for more than two years.

James was known by most people as "Lil Sam", he was a great husband, father and friend. He would give you the shirt off of his back. He loved the outdoors and was a very hard worker. He started out House Moving at an early age in his career. Oh and how when the opportunity came for him to drive the truck pulling the house. He loved to drive fast. Later on Sam was able to get his own truck and drive for himself hauling dirt, gravel, etc. up until health forced him to retire.

His mother, father, seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife and friend Sally; two sons James and Lamont; step-son, Tremanine, two step-daughters, Peggie and Cassandra; one sister, Algie Mae Mackey (Benny); one brother, Patha Hendricks (Faye); one granddaughter, Jasmine and 13 step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of other in-laws, relatives and friends.

Sam spent his later years playing Bingo and hosting card games which he loved the most. He would love to talk about the meal he had prepared. As host of the card games on Thursday, January 13th, the Lord prepared a meal for Sam and called him home to be with Him. He will be missed dearly. But we will see him again soon. We love you!
