Norma "Mama Jean" Hill was born on March 12, 1936 in Caldwell County, Texas. She was the ninth of fourteen children born to Beatrice Johnson Carter and Willie Carter. She professed her love for Christ at an early age at St. John Regular Baptist Church, St. John Colony, Texas. Later in life she joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Creek, Texas where she remained a devoted member.

Norma attended Carver High School where she completed the eleventh grade. Since Norma believed in the importance of education and desired to be a role model for her children, she obtained her GED (approximately 50 years of age).

She was joined in holy matrimony to Frank James Hill, Sr. on January 2, 1957. During their loving union, they were blessed with seven children. After her children were born, Norma re-entered the workforce where she was employed by National Linen for a period of time. Norma then was employed by the University of Texas at Austin where she was a loyal and dedicated employee for twenty-six years until her retirement as a Building Supervisor.

Norma had an awesome trust in God which she passed down to her children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Norma enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, playing basketball and a host of other hobbies and activities.

She was a beautiful, loving, and spirited person who touched the lives of the people she encountered. Her loving and charming personality was like a ray of sunshine. She raised a devoted family and instilled outstanding standards in her children, such as strong will and incredible love. Norma had a great sense of style that was admired by her family and others.

Norma leaves to cherish her precious memory, her children Cheryl (James) DeShay, Cynthia Hill, Mary (Michael) Hill-Hubbard, Derrick (Kim) Hill, and Jermaine Hill. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Frank James Hill, Sr., and two sons, Darrell Lynn Hill and Frank James Hill, Jr.

In addition to her children, she leaves to cherish her memory three sisters: Bertha Bennett, Erma (James) Holt, and Virginia DeShay; two brothers: Matthew Carter, Pastor Lee Lewis (Mildred) Carter; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
