Emma Bertha Haynes Sneed was born to Mr. & Mrs. Frank Haynes, Sr. and Abbie Lee Stafford Haynes, in Edna, Texas July 3rd 1934. She was the youngest of ten children.

She received Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Methodist faith tradition and was called to be an educator.

As a young person, she attended Prairie-View A&M and was a 1955 graduate of Huston-Tillotson College (now University) of Austin, Texas, in the field of her calling, "education". There she met and married the love of her life, Eddie Nelson Sneed. They were married for 40 years and had three children.

Emma had a very prolific career as an educator in Tacoma Public Schools in Washington state. She taught in the Seattle, Renton, and Tacoma school districts for over 20 years. She earned her Masters of Arts in Education from Seattle University in 1979. Thus began her career as a public school administrator and curriculum developer. She served as a principal for the Puyallup Tribal Nation of Puyallup, Washington and later was an administrator for Tacoma Public Schools and Seattle School District.

She passed at home on Monday, November 1st 2010 and had her family with her. Left to cherish her precious memories are her sons, Donnie Sneed, Ron Sneed and her daughter Cherilyn Sneed; two sisters, Dorothy Haynes Bell and Ellen Haynes Ross; two brothers, Frank Haynes and Stanley Haynes.
