On June 13, 1923 in Marble Falls, Texas a joyous event occurred in the life of Charles Balton and Nettie Mae Balton, their daughter and only child Emma Ella was born.

At an early age she was submitted to Christ, due to her parents profound belief in God, through Jesus Christ.

Emma attended Marble Fall Public Schools and had a great love for piano and music. After school, she was united in marriage to Roy Alexander Shelby (who preceded her in death); and to this union was blessed with six children.

Emma moved to Austin in 1956, where she continued to nurture her passion for piano and music--she organized several church choirs in Marble Falls and Austin, Texas. Many Sunday mornings with her children in tow she would be seen headed for the church to give her musical gift to God.

She was employed in several occupations, including that of dietary aide at Bergstrom Air Force Base. She also served as a volunteer at Gardner-Betts School; where she counseled and nurtured youth facing various challenges. She always approached each situation in life with her favorite motto: "In The Name of Sweet Jesus."

She later united in marriage to Monroe Fields who preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Yvonne Bryant of Dallas, Texas, Shirley Shelby Giles (Vincent) of Austin, Texas, James A. Shelby of Kansas City, Kansas, Charles R. Shelby of San Antonio, Texas, Billy R. Shelby of Austin, Texas and Pearl M. Shelby of Austin, Texas; grand children, great grand children, relatives and friends.
