On February 18, 1934, Elmer Joe Alexander, Sr. was born to William Alexander and Sadie Horton. He was the third of nine children born to this union. Elmer was educated in the Creedmoor school district. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Center Union Baptist Church in Creedmoor, Texas under the leadership of Reverend W. C. Carrington. Elmer later joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years.

In 1953, Elmer married Joyce Mae Young. To this union seven children were born.

Elmer enjoyed his many jobs as a heavy equipment operator. As a young man he spent a lot of time farming. He was later employed for many years by James Harper's Landscaping Company. Elmer retired from Travis County Pct. 1 in 2000. He had a love for landscaping and was known for having the prettiest yard on his street. Elmer was a die hard Cowboys fan.

Elmer went home to be with Joyce Mae Alexander, his parents William and Sadie Alexander, three sisters Dorothy Mayberry, Florence Alexander, and Elner Alexander, all of Austin, three brothers Willie Alexander, I.G. Alexander, and Bud Alexander all of Austin.

Elmer leaves to cherish his memories five daughters, Brenda Boyle, Venesa Johnson and Dorothy Alexander, all of Austin, Julia Alexander (Ken) of Alameda, California and Minnie Nixon of Houston, Texas; three sons Elmer (Pete) Joe Alexander, Jr. (Barbara), Willie Ray Alexander, Wilford Lee Alexander all of Austin; one aunt, Annie (Doll) Watrous; a sister Ruby Alexander and brother Curley (Shirley) Alexander, all of Austin; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Elmer also leaves his special friend Rosie Hatch and many nieces, nephews, and a host of extended relatives and friends.
