Mitchell Mays, Sr, age 98, made his journey home in glory on Friday, July 16, 2010.

He was born May 31, 1912 in Round Rock, Tx to the late Willis Mays and the late Olivia Dale Mays of Round Rock, Tx. Mr. Mays was preceded in death by siblings Eleanor, Moses, Garland, Mae Alice, LaRue, his oldest daughter Willis Mays Clifton and son Mitchell Mays Jr.

Mitchell was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church until graduation from Hopewell High School of Round Rock, Tx 1930. He relocated to Austin after high school graduation and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church where he remained a member for over 80 years . He served the Brotherhood and taught Sunday School at the church.
Military years and duties 1943-45- World War II -Vet. . served on Hawaiian Islands and Saipan- rank Staff Sergeant
Honorable Discharge in 1945-military decorations included Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mitchell graduated from Huston Tillotson College in 1951

Left to celebrate his life is his wife of 64 years Annie Marie Mays of Austin, Tx; sister Rose Ellen Mays Banks of Austin; Nancy Tolbert (Edward) Austin, John Mays (Linda) Duncanville, Alfred Mays (Janine) Manor, Helen Leffall (Edwin) Dallas; Rosalyn Davis (Ralph) Round Rock, Linda Bowser (Ernest) Austin; 13 grands; 14 great-grands; nieces; nephews; cousins; and countless Austin community friends.
