Leola Smith was born March 1, 1936 to Rosetta Brown Smith and Charlie Smith in Rayville, Louisiana. Both parents preceded her in death.

Leola received her education in Warden, Louisiana. Her parents later moved to Monroe Louisiana, where she remained until 1956. In 1956 she moved to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1973 she joined the Heavenly Gospel C.O.G.I.C. Church under the leadership of Supt. Floyd Taylor. She attended the Smith Chapel C.O.G.I.C. Church under the leadership of Supt. Jessie B. Smith. Later she joined the Rock of Ages C.O.G.I.C. Church under the leadership of Supt. Johnny Castleberry until Elder Charles Beard was placed as Pastor. She remained there until her death; the church name was changed to Assured Faith C.O.G.I.C.

Leola was a Housekeeper for private families in the Fort Worth and Arlington areas. She also worked as a Contractor for the Laborers National Union of Dallas, TX. In 1996 she retired to care for her father full-time. After her father passed she began to work as a Home Health Care provider until February 2010.

Leola was a beloved Mother to the community, she also devoted her time to fund raising for the March of Dimes, and a member at the Golden Choice Adult Center until her health failed her.

She leaves her daughter Linda Brown Draughan, and a daughter she raised as her own Decre Johnson (Nate); grandchildren, Dionisia Brown-Sharpe (Bryan), Kevin R. Brown (Jana), Madison, Nia; great-grandcildren, Bilyesia, Zharia, Kivah, Janae; brother, Clarence Smith; sister, Beulah Carroll, and a host of nieces and nephews. Special friends for many years, Almeda Harvey, Willie Jackson, Beryl Harris and other relatives and friends, caretakers who took care of her and Scott & White Hospice Nurse Sandy and Social Worker Vickie, Dr. Leila Williams, and neighbor Jane.
