Miss Inita Maxine Smith, 85, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on May 27, 2010. Maxine was born in Caldwell County, the middle child of three children born to the union of Ferry and Leona Spears Smith.

She received a B.S. Degree from Tillotson College and a M.S. Degree from Prairie View A&M. Maxine taught for a total of 36 years, beginning at the Lockhart Vocational/Carver High School before retiring.

She worked and volunteered for the local Meals on Wheels for a few years. Maxine enjoyed participating in community activities with her late sister (Dora L. Smith) such as painting, guitar, computer, and swimming classes. She loved to walk, enjoyed watching sports and once met Baseball Legend Jackie Robinson at a baseball exhibition in Austin.

She was a faithful member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where she served as Worship Leader, Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the choir and various other committees.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, a brother (Grant Smith) and sister (Dora L. Smith). She leaves to mourn two aunts, Ozella Luckey (Seguin, Texas), Rosetta Scott (San Antonio, Texas); one son John H. Smith (Ouida Kay) of Round Rock, Texas; two step grandchildren Nicholas L. Parker and Tymetria K. Parker (San Antonio, Texas); three step-great grandchildren Demetrius Parker, Nikki Parker and Tristan Njoku; and a host of relatives, friends, and former students.
