It is said that when life begins, it is like an open book with many blank pages. Each day as we live, our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and wait for that great getting up morning.

The page of this book began for Richard Massey, Jr. when he was born to the late Elder Richard Massey, Sr. and Eula Robinson on December 28, 1933 in Waco, Texas.

Richard grew up in the Waco community where he attended pubilc school. Richard loved to sing and as a child, he and his sisters, Elnora, Vera and Dorothy, often traveled throughout the North, East, and West Texas towns singing at various churches, and even recorded a few songs. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with the North Waco COGIC under the leadership of Elder Ira Thomas. Richard later worked diligently with his fellow brothers in Christ to erect a new church in Bellmead, Texas, the Bellmead COGIC.

Richard loved the Lord and the church. When he moved to Cleveland, Ohio he united with Community Temple COGIC where he served as a Deacon and was later ordained as an Elder. When he relocated to Austin, Texas, Richard continued in service at Deliverance of Praise COGIC, Harker Heights, Texas under the leadership of Bishop A. LaDell Thomas, Sr., until his health began to fail. He then served at For His Glory COGIC, under the leadership of Dr. A. LaDell Thomas, Jr.

Richard loved to cook and he worked for numerous reputable restaurants where he quicly progressed to Head Chef. He retired, but continued to share his culinary skills and love for food at every opportunity.

The final page of this book for Richard Massey, Jr. was written on May 9, 2010. He was a wonderful husband, uncle and brother. He was preceded in death by his daugher, mother, father, two brothers and one sister. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years, Lula Massey; his other mother, Mama Ada; two sisters, Elnora Thomas (Bishop A. LaDell Thomas) and Barbara Massey; one brother, Louis Massey (Regina); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
