Theresa Rivers Chiles Scott's story is one of giving, thankfulness and love. Her story began in the town of Carmine, Texas on November 25, 1929. Born to the union of the late Matthew and Lillie Rivers, she was the youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Scott; brother Otto Rivers, and sister, Annabell Rivers. Theresa completed her final chapter in this life on Monday April 12, 2010.

Theresa accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mission One Ministry.

Theresa graduated from Carmine High School and attended Huston Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. She later attended the Brackenridge School of Nursing and after graduation began her career as a nurse at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas, where she worked for 12 years. During this same time, Theresa cared for her paralyzed uncle in her home until his passing. Theresa's story of giving would continue in her new role as an Assistant for the Travis County Human Resource Department and later at the University Of Texas, where she worked as an audio technician for a number of years until her retirement. Theresa found peace living at her home on Cherrywood Road in Austin, Texas for over 40 years, and called her neighbors family.

She married Freddy Chiles at an early age and to this union two children were born, Don and Darrell Chiles. Theresa later married Leroy Scott, and they had one child, Michelle.

Theresa was a hard worker and experienced many hardships, but she overcame them and realized many blessings. Theresa leaves behind two sons and a daughter; Don Chiles (Sandra) of Frisco Texas, Darrell Chiles of Austin, Texas and Michelle Scott of Farmers Branch, Texas; four grandchildren, Brandon Chiles, Erica Chiles, Tiffany Simms and Quinton Chiles; and as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
