Anthony Cooney exchanged this life for a better one on Good Friday morning, April 2, 2010. Anthony was the second child born to the union of the late Marion and Ethel (Durham) Cooney on March 22, 1954. Anthony completed his early education in Dade County, Florida and later moved to Austin, Texas to attend Huston-Tillotson College. He later began a career as a city bus operator for Austin Transit Corporation (City of Austin) for a number of years before relocating to Gilmer, Texas. Later he returned to Austin and was employed by 3-D Security until his health failed.

Anthony was a passionate fisherman, swimmer, and loved cooking, texting, and watching sports. He also loved spending time with friends and family.

He professed his life to Christ at an early. He later joined and was baptized at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Clara Bradford-Cooney; three daughters, Tishonna Cooney of Austin, Texas, Angel Cooney McKay (Antonio) of Memphis, Tennessee, Erica Anderson of Indianapolis, Indiana; two special aunts, Fannie Shannon of Miami, Florida, Sadie C. Williams of Monticello, Florida; two sisters, Rose Heard and Linda Okpara, both of Austin, Texas; one sister-in-law, Cindy Walker of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, LaDarious Cooney, Erick VanBrakle, both of Austin, Texas, Ashton McKay of Memphis, Tennessee, Morgan Anderson and Macee Hayes, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; one great grandchild, Xiah Easley of Austin, Texas; nine nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
