Roberta Atwood was born January 1, 1912 in Austin, Travis County, Texas to Mattie and Andrew Hardin, Sr. To this union six children were born. Her parents, one brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

She attended school in Travis County, Texas.

Roberta accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Mount Zion (Williamson Creek). She was a faithful long time member of Mount Zion until her health began to fail.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to George Atwood, Sr. on April 20, 1927. This union remained until he was called to rest on March 6, 2004. One daughter, two grandsons, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a large and loving family: her sons, George Atwood, Jr. (Georgia Lee), Andrew Atwood (Lois); her daughters, Johnnie Byrd, Tommie Coffee, Mattie Johnson (Ulysess), Barbara Wilkins (Walter) and Mary Haynes (Pierce), all of Austin, Texas; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-seven great grandchildren, forty-one great great grandchildren; one brother Ed Hardin of Austin, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Itaily Harris and Edna Johnson of Austin, Texas and Lena Wayne of Compton, California along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
