Hazel united at an early age with St. Peter's United methodist Church in Austin, Texas. The Breedlove family has been well established in the Austin area and family was always a central theme in Hazel's life.

In 1972 Hazel relocated to San Antonio, Texas and earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
