Sterling Shepard, Jr., the third of nine children, was born in Austin, Texas on July 12, 1932 to the late Sterling Shepard, Sr. and Mary Birdie Lee Shepard.

He accepted Christ at an early age at St. Peter's Methodist Church. Sterling later united with Grace Fellowship Baptist Church and was a faithful member. He called his pastor every Sunday morning before church to inform him that he would be there.

He received his education in the Austin Public Schools and after graduation entered the military. Upon completion of his tour of duty, Sterling returned to Austin and was employed at the Butter Krust Bakery.

The angels took Sterling by the hand on January 25, 2010 and led him into eternity. Sterling Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jean Evelyn Coffer and Bettie J. Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty years, Aline McDowell Shepard; two sons, Roddie Scott Shepard and Sterling Shepard, III of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Sharon Scott of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy E. Williams and Elaine Y. Shepard of San Francisco, California and Gwendolyn L. Shepard of Oakland, California; three brothers, Robert V.
