Velma departed this earthly home on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. for her heavenly dwelling with the Lord.

Velma was born June 12, 1919 in Travis County, to Theron and Irene Fowler Nichols. She grew up in the small community of Manor, Texas. Velma attended school in Manor.

Velma accepted Christ at an early age at the Gildon Creek Baptist Church in Manor, Texas. Upon moving to Austin, she united with the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. She sang in the Young Adult Choir and was a member of the Junior Mission. Later, upon moving to Long Beach, California she united with the Second Baptist Church. While there she served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. Later moving back to Austin, Texas she reunited with the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. N. W. Bacon.

She married U. L. White, who preceded her in death. Later she married James Floyd who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Theron and Irene Nicholas, two sisters, Corrine Pleasant and Birdie J. Myers.

Velma leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Vernese Foster; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
