Brother Lelmer Dunn was born to the union of Millie Hudspeth and Robert Dunn on November 27, 1915 in St. John Colony, Texas. Lelmer Dunn was born into a family of twelve children. He remained in St. John Colony with his family during his early years where he received his education and professed his faith in Christ at Zion Union Baptist Church. On March 18, 1936 he married Willie Mae Walker in Lytton Springs, Texas.

Lelmer Dunn, Willie Mae and the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1940. Lelmer Dunn joined St. John Baptist Church where Rev. J. Terrell Stewart was the pastor. Lelmer Dunn was a very active member of the church. It was important to him that his children also knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Lelmer Dunn remained in Corpus Christi until 2003 when he moved to Austin, Texas and in 2004 joined Mount Zion Baptist Church where Rev. G. V. Clark is the pastor. He was a faithful member of the church until his health began to fail him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Millie Hudspeth and Robert Dunn; his beloved daughter, Vernette Dunn; granddaughter, Kathy Marie Warren; and his sisters and brothers, Willie James Whitley, Norvella Hunter, Saul Arthur, Rosa Lee Batts, Ruth Pearson, Sam Pearson, and Israel Whitley.

He is survived by brothers and sisters Jay Dunn; Willie Mae Burton; Farris Houston; Girlie Mae Wallace; and Raymond Whitley.

He leaves many who will always honor and cherish his memory. They include his nine remaining children and their spouses; Floreen Smith of Pensacola, Florida;

Katherine Gray of Austin, Texas; James Earl Dunn of Los Angeles, California; Larry Dunn of Austin, Texas; Loney Mae Perryman of Austin, Texas; George Ray Dunn of Los Angeles, California; Diann Williams of Pensacola, Florida; Robert Dave Dunn of Austin, Texas; Bernard Dunn of Austin, Texas; 26 grandchildren; Edward Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Sandra Johnson, Harold Johnson, Karen Gray, Kellie Gray-Smith, Anthony Dunn, Michael Dunn, Jonathan Dunn, Regina Dunn, Tanisha Cole, Freddie Cole, Barron Cole, Robert Dunn, Jr., Tesheda Dunn, Marcus Dunn, Michael Dunn, Lisa Dunn, Kevin Dunn, Cynthia Dunn, Williesharee Dunn, Sharese Dunn, Khamesha Dunn, Ashley Moore, Ivory Moore, Sonja Dunn. Also left behind are precious great-grandchildren, Adrian Dunn, Emory Smith, Kenneth Johnson, Marcus Dunn, Lauren Warren, Kyle Warren, Regina Dunn and several great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Those who will also miss him include daughters-in-law, Isabel Dunn, Linda Dunn, and Sharon Dunn; and son-in-law, Robert Smith.
