Mignon Lavonne Ricks was born to Thomas J. and Ophelia E. (Seay) Ricks on August 5, 1920. She professed a belief in Christ at the age of 9 and was baptized by Rev. W. Benford at Mt. Arie Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church.)

She attended Taylor public schools and graduated from Blackshear High School at the age of 12. After graduating from Prairie View A&M College, she was an elementary school teacher in Georgetown, Texas until she secured a position at the U.S. General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., receiving a Meritorious Service award in 1970. She attended Howard University while working there and retired from the U.S. General Accounting Office as an Auditor/Transcription Specialist.

After retirement, she returned to Taylor and became involved in civic activities; serving as Church Secretary of First Baptist Church; auditor/credit manager for the United Counties Federal Credit Union; election judge for the City of Taylor and Taylor Independent School District; member of the Taylor Zoning Board of Adjustments; treasurer of the Welfare Workers Club and a life member of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Thomye Ricks Houston and nephew Thomas Lee Houston.

Survivors include great-niece, Natalie Houston-Hunter (Irby Jr.); great-nephew, Matthew Houston; loving niece, Dorothy Houston; special cousin, Odis Lee Fletcher; 4 great-great nieces and nephews.
