Mrs. Carlean Alma Carter departed this earth Tuesday, August 25, 2009. She died at her home after suffering a brief battle with cancer. Carlean was born July 20, 1943 to David Ockletree and Mrs. Margarette Hunter Carter. She was the 5th of seven children. Carlean was preceded in death by her husband, Warren (Skooky) Johnson, her parents, sister and community activist, Velma Roberts, and brothers, Harold and James (Jimmy) Carter, all of Austin.

Carlean attended AISD schools and continued her education at Austin Community College, where she earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration. She was a long-time employee with the City of Austin rendering over 30 years of service. Carlean's love, care and compassion for others manifested through her work. She began her career with the City with Salina Activity Center, managing the Senior Lunch Program. Her last position was with the City of Austin, Human Resources Department at the De Witty Center where she served as Program Manager. Although Carlean touched numerous lives through employment, she provided access to education, training and social services. During Carlean's life she faced and overcame many obstacles. Carlean did not let those obstacles ever hinder her success, instead she shared her story to encourage and motivate others. During her employment, Carlean received numerous accolades and awards for her service.

Carlean's greatest times were spent enjoying her family, friends and numerous hobbies including painting, decorating, especially her home.
