Allen Gordon Hughes, Sr.

Allen Gordon Hughes, Sr. was born on April 1, 1942 in Crescent, Oklahoma. His parents were Luther and Minette Hughes. His parents later relocated to Guthrie, Oklahoma where he played and enjoyed his childhood.

He later entered Faver High School and was a noted athlete. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961. His tour of duty allowed him to spend time in San Antonio, Texas, Spokane, Washington and Fairbanks, Alaska.

He was united in marriage to Ms. Marilyn Delores Harnsberry in 1966. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband and father.

Allen was always forthright, honest, ethical, and always with a joke of smile in the toughest of situations. He had a curious nature and intelligence for creating and designing, and repairing things. This led him to get training as an electronic technician and later received his associate's degree from United Electronics Institute in 1974. He later moved his family to Austin, Texas where he worked for IBM for 27 years. He also worked for Silicon Valley Group and ASML Vendors as a field service engineer which enabled him to travel to Europe, China, Central America, and throughout the United States.

He has a variety of interests, which included reading, bicycling, fishing, and especially sailing. An avid sailor, he sailed from Florida to Texas and he regularly participated in sailing races, placing 4th in the Cruising Non-Spinnaker Division - A 2006 Harvest Moon Regatta.

Allen departed this life on July 18, 2009. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and one sister.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Marilyn; two sons Allen, Jr. and Derke; one daughter Alicia; two grandsons Dylan and Elijah; one sister Jane Allen; two brothers John Givens (Leah) and Tom Eddie (Bernice); a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He will live with us in memory. He will be truly missed by all of us, his relatives and friends. He was a joy.

Services entrusted to A Life Celebration by Franklin.
