Booker T. Hicks, Jr., 72, was called home on Thursday, June 25, 2009. Born in Pflugerville, Texas to the late Booker T., Sr. and Artie M. Hicks, he confessed his belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and faithfully served as a member of the Olivet Baptist Church until his death.

Known to many in the community as a trailblazer, mentor, father figure and loyal friend, Booker had a fun loving, easy going manner that enriched the lives of everyone he encountered. Although he achieved many accomplishments, he is best known as being the first African American in Austin to work his way from being the bank mail clerk to becoming Vice President of First City and Frost Bank of Texas.

Booker graduated from L.C. Anderson High School and People's Business College prior to enjoying a 43-year banking career. He was an avid baseball player and golfer in his heyday. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed lazy afternoons discussing current events with his barbershop buddies, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beautiful wife and daughter whom he affectionately called "Stella" and "Tricia."

Booker leaves to cherish and honor his memories his devoted wife of 51 years, Estella, beloved daughter Patricia, loving brother Benjamin, aunt Anna Hamilton, lifelong friend Julius Gordon (Shirley), all of Austin, and a multitude of relatives and dear friends.
