Ruby (Houston) Howard was born October 16, 1927 in Holland, Texas to Leon and Ellen (Thomas) Houston.

At an early age Ruby professed a hope in Christ. After moving to Sayersville, Texas she was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under Rev. S. M. Meadows. After moving to Austin she became a member of The Main East Austin Baptist Church under Pastor S. L. Evans. Later after she married, she united with the St. Edwards Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Admiral DeWitty. On August 15, 1982 she was united with Freedom Home Baptist Church. She served in the music department as well as with the mission team. Also, she served as president of the deaconess. She served well until her illness prevented her doing so.

Ruby attended the Austin Public Schools and worked at the Austin State School until she retired.

Ruby was united in marriage to Oscar B. Howard, Sr. on June 10, 1945. To this union six children were born. Ruby lived with her husband in Austin for 64 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as three sisters, five brothers, and one daughter, Etta Mae Howard.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Oscar Howard, Sr.; two daughters, Shirley Blackman and Linda LeDee (Alfred) both of Austin, Texas; three sons, Rev. Oscar Howard, Jr. (Renee') of Round Rock, Texas, Rev. Arthur Howard of Austin, Texas and Jerry Howard of Memphis, Tennessee; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
