Vernon Wayne "Big Pete" Washington departed this life to return to our Lord, Jesus Christ on Friday, May 8, 2009. He was born on August 25, 1945 in Austin, Texas to Louis Washington and Vesta Mae Mackey-Washington. Both parents preceded him in death.

"Big Pete" received his formal education in the Austin public schools and graduated from the old L. C. Anderson High School in 1963. In September 1964 he married Mae Carter. Two children, a son and daughter, were born to this union.

In his young adult years, he joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S. L. Davis and most recently under the leadership of Reverend L. K. Jones.

His employment included: Cabiness-Brown Furniture Company for six years; Monarch Paper Company for more than 17years; frost Tech, Inc. 15 years and Majestic Trucking Company where he retired after 5 years.

His memory will be cherished by his adopted mother, Annie Watrous; two children, Cedric Washington (Carla) and Toni Washington of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Thedencia Sears of Austin, Texas, Devon Washington and Devin Washington of Houston, Texas; four sisters Elizabeth Burse (Charles) of Dale, Texas, Laverne Carothers of Houston, Texas, Michelle Williams of New York and Wanda Bowie of Washington; uncles, Sammy Mackey and Dr. Audrey L. Mackey (Margery) of Austin, Texas; favorite nieces, Delisa, Saundra, Melinda and Belinda and Charlotte; his best friend from childhood days, August Thomas; special friend Viola Wilson; and a host of relatives and friends.
