Verna Mae Brown was born in Lytton Springs, Texas to the parentage of the late Aaron and Lena Allen Washington. She was born on December 3, 1930, the youngest of nine children. She received her formal education through public schools in St. John Colony.

She loved God first and foremost. She was a child of God from birth to rebirth. Verna Mae Brown accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. J.B. Brown. Their union was blessed with five daughters.

Verna was employed at Grace's Home cooking as a waiter for thirty seven years until her retirement. She then worked a few years at the cafeteria for the Texas Department of Public Safely. She was an active member at her church, Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, until her illness.

She affectionately cared, loved, and nurtured her family at all times. She was guileless at heart. Her word was her bond, which was a virtue in today's time. Over the years, Verna always cooked and she continued to have a love of cooking. One of her specialties was her fabulous peach cobbler among many other home cooked items. She loved having someone's eyes light up when they smelt the aroma from one of her dishes. She also liked to see the smile on their face while eating a meal that she prepared. She loved to bake and always cooked from scratch. She loved watching various sports and Western movies. Calm, Patient, and loving was her nature. She was always benevolent to others and kept a beautiful spirit. Common words spoken before bed were: God has been good to me; I love y'all!.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Woody Washington, Alter Washington Byrd, Lillian Washington Jones, Clara Washington Pennington, Lillie Washington Roland, R. C. Washington, Aaron Jake Washington, and Jesse Washington.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: daughters, Rosie Patton, Minnie Jewel Brown, Rhonda Ward (Michael), Sandra E. Chambers (Jimmie), Kimberly Floyd; grandchildren: Terry Patton (Monica), Yvonne Patton, Yvette Roe (Trent), Shameika Brown, Adria Lynn Brown, Danyell Stanley, Regginald Alexander, Jr., Whitney Stanley, David Floyd, Erric Chambers, Daniel Floyd; six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
