Bernice's sunrise on earth was November 2, 1919 and she was born to Willie Mae Edwards and David King in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Bernice started her religious search in Chicago, Illinois at the early age of 5 as a Catholic. When she moved to Austin, she joined Grant Chapel A.M.E. where she served as a board member, a Sunday school teacher a missionary and an Eastern Star.

Bernice attended elementary and high school in Chicago, Illinois where she successfully graduated from both. Bernice furthered her education in college and obtained many degrees and certificates such as Real Estate, Business, Money Management, Nursing and Childcare.

Bernice was married to John L. Franks in 1971 where they stayed married until 1993, for a total of 22 years. John and Bernice were still companions at the time of her home going. They were together for a total of 38 years. John was there when Bernice took her last breath and crossed over.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memory one granddaughter, Carmelita LaTreice Edwards and one grandson, Artis Patrick Lloyd Edwards, both of Austin; John L. Franks, longtime companion and ex-husband for 38 years; 4 great grandsons who she loved a great deal, Christian King age 15, Casey Frels age14, Joseph Foley age 7 and Artis Patrick Lloyd Edwards, Jr. age 3; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae Edwards and David King; one daughter whom she loved, Tonda Edwards; 5 brothers and one sister, all of Chicago, Illinois.
