Roosevelt Thomas was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2009 after a long illness.

Roosevelt was born in Lexington, Texas to the union of Jeff and Addie Mae Thomas. The family relocated to San Antonio, Texas where Roosevelt attended public schools. After graduating from High School, he served in the U.S. Army, and following that enrolled in college at Huston-Tillotson University, where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While attending Huston-Tillotson, he met the love of his life, Mary R. Hollis and upon graduating, they were joined in holy matrimony. To this union, they had a child, Rosemary Thomas Ward. Mary and Roosevelt both taught school in the Austin Independent School System. Subsequently, Roosevelt attended Our Lady of the Lake University where he obtained a Masters Degree in Education. With this educational achievement, Roosevelt was appointed as an Elementary School Principal and he worked in this capacity until his retirement.

After their retirement, Roosevelt and Mary established a second career in farming. Renaming the family homestead, Hollis Haven, they raised animals and crops. This hands on experience brought them both joy. Roosevelt and Mary will long be remembered for organizing a Hollis/Grant Family Reunion in 1993, an event that many still discuss.

Roosevelt was totally committed to the education of children as evidenced by the 37 years that he worked for the Austin Independent School System.

Roosevelt gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church until his death.

Roosevelt was a dedicated and devoted husband and father to his wife Mary and daughter Rosemary. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and wife. He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary and a host of cousins.
