Rebecca LaVerne Hunter was born to Mathes Jasper Sr. and Mary Lucille (Clewis) Jasper on April 21, 1938 in the Slocum community in Anderson County, Texas. She entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2017.

In 1945 the Jasper Family relocated to Houston, Texas. Rebecca was educated in the Houston Independent School District. Following graduation from Phillis Wheatley High School in January 1957 (Mid-Term), she moved to Austin, Texas where she attended Huston-Tillotson College. Additionally she attended Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She also attended Austin Community College where she was conferred the degree of Associate of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences.

Rebecca confessed her faith in God and was baptized at an early age and joined the congregation of First Saint Mark Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

Rebecca was united in marriage to Matthew Hunter on March 24, 1963 and to this union they were blessed with a daughter and a son. She was a devoted wife and mother who placed the welfare, safety and comfort of her family first and foremost. Rebecca joined David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1963 under the pastorate leadership of Reverend J. E. Obey. She participated in Mission 1 "TOUCH LIST" outreach effort. She was a faithful servant of God living and dying by faith.

As a parent, Rebecca was actively involved in PTA in the Austin Independent School District. She was a school-room mother, a Girl Scout Leader and an Assistant Cub Scout Den Mother. She participated in Community Causes volunteering her time supporting the American Institute for Cancer Prevention. She was a member of the Clewis-Cushionberry Family Reunion Universal Committee where she served as Chairperson and/or Co-chair for several years. She traveled with her family to attend semi-annual reunions.

Rebecca's work history in the healthcare field began at St. David's Hospital's Nursing Department where she served as a Post-Operative Nurse for nearly ten years. She was also employed by the State of Texas, with more than 26 years of service for both the Travis State School and Austin State Hospital and DHS prior to retiring in 2000 from the Texas Department of Health's Bureau of Radiation Control as a Technical Reviewer for the Mammography Program.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers – Mathis Jasper, Jr. and William Earl Jasper. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Matthew Hunter; daughter Avril J. Hunter (Richard) of Austin, Texas; son Gregory D. Hunter (Anna), granddaughter Haven A. Hunter of Oakland, California; sisters Vernita Jasper Johnson, Mae Frances Jasper Young, Helen Ruth Jasper Giliard (Howard), Lois Jasper Rhines (Norris) all of Houston, Texas; and Bernice Jasper of Missouri City, Texas. Sister-in-Law Bobbie Henderson of Detroit, Michigan. Two brothers: Rev. Otis Jasper of Oakland, California, Harold C. Jasper (Anne) of Stockbridge, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
