Chanda Shantel Kennie, 37, passed at 1:37 am, March 23, 2017, after a lifetime battle with Type 1 diabetes in San Antonio, Texas.

Chanda was born in Austin, Texas, January 9, 1980 and spent her life in the Central Texas area. Chanda attended Oak Springs and FR Rice Elementary Schools in East Austin. She went to Middle School at Fulmore and Travis high on the South side. Chanda was proud graduate of Huston-Tillotson University having served on the student government association.

Chanda was in was a music prodigy, having begun playing piano at an early age. She played violin and viola as well as the piano. She played in the orchestra through High School, even performing with the Mariachis at Travis. She studied and performed with the HTU choir behind artists like Phillip Bailey and Denice Williams, although her Great-grandmother just liked when she played the fiddle. My music was her dream and aspiration. She wanted to be a music teacher and share that love. She found she also enjoyed working with the young people generally. She worked over time for Austin Eastside Story, Boys & Girls Clubs, & Extend-A-Care.

Beyond all that, she knew and loved the Lord.

Chanda is survived by her mother and father, Joyce & John Kennie, her sister Jonna Bozeman and her husband Neal, maternal grandmother, Rose Spruell, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends who continue to love her.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Kennie, her grandfather Finist Spruell and her Great grandmother Mae Spencer.
