Deacon Leslie Malett, Jr. was born November 30, 1925 to Leslie Malett, Sr. and Evelyn Malett in Manor, Texas. He received his formal education in the public schools of Manor. He was the second of fourteen siblings.

Deacon Malett met and married Vernice Bradshaw on November 8, 1953. To this union two daughters were born, Felicia and Hollie.

Deacon Malett was employed by the University of Texas at Austin where he served for forty-seven years with the Intramural Sports department. During his tenure of employment, he worked as a departmental supervisor over the athletic field care and maintenance teams. Because of his excellent landscaping skills he was often called in as a consultant to assist other field care teams within the University of Texas system.

Deacon Malett united with the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by his uncle, Rev. L. E. Malett. He later united with Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. S. L. Davis. He served as choir president and Sunday School treasurer, along with other roles of service over the years. He was ordained as a deacon under the pastoral leadership of Rev. L. K. Jones and remained a faithful servant in that role until his health failed.

Deacon Malett was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 62 years, Vernice; daughters, Felicia Jett (George); Hollie Wormley (James); five Grandchildren, George Jett, III, Crystal Jett, Aloysia Malett, James Wormley, and Willie Wormley: Sisters, Hattie Reed, Evelyn Barton (Clyde), Pearl Johnson, Patricia Combs, Frankie Taplin, Dora Jones, all of San Antonio, Johnnie Mae Perkins of Houston; Brother, Rev. Roy Malett of Austin, Texas, eight great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Janie Wormley, special friend, Michael Brown, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, collateral relatives and friends
