Mary Alice Cavanaugh was born November 3, 1937 in Austin, Texas to Joseph Daniel Cavanaugh and Frances Mae Swan Cavanaugh.

She worked as a nurses' aide and was an Avon representative. In her spare time she liked to play solitaire and also did a lot of reading.

Mary was baptized at Bonner Chapel Baptist Church in Elroy, Texas by the late Pastor Henry Hill. She later in life became a member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas where she served as an usher. She then moved to Floydada, Texas and united with the First Baptist Church for over 30 years. Upon returning to Austin, Texas around 2010 she united with the Unity Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Arvy Crayton, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nancy Cavanaugh, Velma House, Bertha McCradic; brothers Eugene, Alexander, James, and Joseph Cavanaugh.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory: son, Larry A. Cavanaugh; three sisters, Marjorie Gentry, Juanita Jackson, and Celeste Gibson; two brothers, Ira Odell Cavanaugh, Sr. and Bobby Gene Byrd; two stepchildren. Jay Brandon Coleman and Hope Coleman; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
