Major James Willis Jr. "Sunny" was born 3-26-1929 to Mrs. Rose Etta Coleman and Mr. Major James Willis Sr. He was the #1 son of eight children.

Major accepted Christ at an early age where he attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. He moves his membership to Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. N. W. Bacon, where he attended church and Sunday school and was known as "The peppermint man"
On August 16, 1953 and on her birthday he united in marriage with Shirley M. Wilson Willis ("Daisy") and to them one child was born.

Major dedicated many years to the University of Texas Balconies Research Center and retired on May 1, 1984. After his retirement he enjoyed building wooden swings, small wooden benches, making copper rings/bracelets and just fixing and repairing things.

To some Major was known as "Sunny", "Big Red", "Doc", "Gran-daddy", "Paw-Paw", and "The Peppermint man", but most of all "Daddy" by his daughter. He went to be with Jesus on Friday February 19, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his mother Rose Etta Coleman Willis, father Major James Willis Sr. ("Serge"). His wife Shirley M. Willis, six siblings (Peggy Marie, Robert, Harry, Sam, Mae Bess, and Albert) two sister-in-law's Evolia Given and Dee Willis.

He leaves to treasure his memory: one daughter Paula Jean Willis-Simpson, son-in-law Willie Simpson Sr. one grandson Willie Earl Simpson Jr. (Pep) one granddaughter Bronwin Sada'e Simpson (Boss) two great grandchildren NaSyah Simpson and O'Ryann Greene all of Austin. Three sister-in-law's Mildred Taylor, Mary Hurst, Rose Hurst, one brother-in-law James Hurst, five faithful caregivers Nathenia Jackson, Shannon Allen, Zora Green, Big Mike Swann Sr., Rosalind Andry, one childhood friend Maxine Johnson and a host of nieces, nephew's relatives and friends.
