Iva Lou was a devoted wife and loving mother. Iva Lou and Arthur joined Olivet Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kennedy Young Sr. where they were faithful attendants until Arthur's death and the failing of her health removed her from Olivet's pews. Even though she could not attend church due to her health she always remained a true and faithful believer. When in her presence you were sure to hear words of encouragement from Iva.

She loved to talk about the Lord and sing His songs of praise, whether it was a song she knew or one
that she would just make up and start singing. She loved to do hair for her family and friends but most importantly she loved her arts and crafts, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Phoebe Circle while at Olivet Baptist Church.
