The Life of Sister Lue Etta Foster Houston

Lue Etta Foster Houston, the fifth Child of Charles Henry Foster and Jessie Mae Dupree Foster was born June 28, 1925 in Leona County.

Lue Etta graduated from the Original L.C. Anderson High School. There she met and married her high school sweetheart O. C. Houston, Sr. To this union four children were born.

She graduated from Houston Tillotson College and received her BA degree in Elementary Education. While two of her children were in college she decided to attend Prairie View College on Saturdays and two summers. In 1969 Lue Etta received her master degree from Prairie View A&M in Counseling and Guidance.

At an early age Lue Etta professed her love to Christ and joined the family church, Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church and was baptized. She served as General Secretary of the Sunday School, a Sunday School teacher and was supervisor of the Vacation Bible School. Lue Etta was also a member of Usher Board Number Two and Mission Number One.

After her children began public school she decided to attend Houston Tillotson College and work part time at Brown School. After graduating from college her teaching career began as a substitute teacher. During the same year, she was employed as a full time teacher at Blackshear Elementary School.

She loved working with children and loved helping them develop to their fullest capacity.

Lue Etta was a member of the Teacher's State Association, National Education Association and Scout Leader of Troop #151. She was president of Sims P.T.A., vice president of Anderson High School Band Mothers and treasurer of Kealing and Rosewood P.T.A.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, O.C. Houston, Sr., one son, O.C. Houston, Jr., one daughter, Jessie Houston Doody, and three brothers, C.J. Foster, Kelly Foster and Fred Foster.

Survivors remaining to cherish her memories include two daughters, Beverly Houston Piper and Beatrice Houston Smith (Donald). Five grandchildren, Byron Piper (Suzanne), Whitney Houston, Benee' Piper Brown (Marvin), Jette' Momant and Angel Robinson (Cedric); eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd Lee Foster (Lea trice), Oliver T. Foster and Lawrence; two sisters-in-law, Vernese N. Foster and Carlos B. Foster; nieces, nephew, cousins, other relatives and friends.
