Barbara Almetta Hill was born June 26, 1939 in Austin, Travis County, Texas to Clarence Cornelius Hill and Robbie Mae Brown-Hill.

A life-long member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, she was baptized at an early age under Pastor J. H. Washington. she graduated from the original L. C. Anderson High School in the class of 1956. She also attended the University of Texas College of Business Administration from 1956 - 1959, and was a member of the first integrated undergraduate class at UT.

In 1959, she was united in matrimony with Peter Robert Pollard, during which time she gave birth to five children.

She served as a secretary to Senator Barbara Jordan from 1967-1968 and from 1968-1971, served as the first African American executive secretary to the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas. She also served as secretary for the State of Texas at the Office of the Governor. She was employed at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for 35 years before retiring in 1991.

Barbara was a former member of the Bright and Early Eastern Star of the Mt. Carmel Grand Lodge.

Barbara enjoyed and loved her family. She was also a special caregiver to her granddaughter, Barakaye Pollard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children - Patrick Pollard, Carla Gregg, David (Margaret) Pollard, Zina (Harry) Hunter and Stephen Pollard. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, two sisters - Agnes (Johnny) Knight and Betty (James ) King, special cousin - Jean Felder, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
