Geneva Freeman Smith was born in Austin, Texas on September 1, 1922, the first child of Chalmers and Eloise Freeman. She professed her love for Christ at an early age and became a member at Wesley United Methodist Church as she served on the Usher Board. During her teenage years, she moved her membership to Grant Chapel AME Church where she served as an Usher, choir member, class leader, and a missionary.

She attended Austin Public Schools. She was a homemaker as well as a caregiver to many. She was a marvelous cook, seamstress and had a love for plants.

She was married to Frank S. L. Smith where they made Austin, Texas their home. She was a proud mother of six children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Smith; her parents Chalmers and Eloise Freeman; two sisters, Clarissia and Joyce, two brothers, Clarence and Chalmers; children Retta and L. C.; and granchdilren, Clarence and Tiny.

Geneva leaves to cherish her memories: children, Lawrence (Zula), Frankie (Ardis), Anita, and Linda (Kenneth-deceased); sister Vera; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; 3 god-children and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives as well as many friends.

Due to the ongoing renovations at King-Tears Mortuary, flowers may be delivered to Austin Peel and Son Funeral Home on Friday, April 17, 2015.
