Dorothy Nell Anderson was born on August 10, 1927 in Travis County, Texas to the late Orange and Mary Easley. She was the oldest of 13 children.

At age 18, Dorothy married Leon Anderson. They united in holy matrimony on March 10, 1946 and were married for 59 years.

"For I was hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in."(Matthew 25:35) Mrs. Anderson routinely opened her doors to provide shelter to family members in need. She welcomed Huston-Tillotson students to her table for Sunday dinners, bought clothes and shoes for countless children, and frequently drove great distances to pick up members for church. For decades, Dorothy took it upon herself to prepare the bread, juice, and linens for baptisms and the Lord's Supper. Sister Anderson was a faithful and supportive member.

Mrs. Anderson was employed with Austin ISD and retired after 34 years of service. She worked at the administration building, a middle school, and two elementary schools. Because of her love for cooking, Dorothy became an entrepreneur and opened Mary E's Kitchen. Her children, grandchildren, and other family members contributed to the success of the restaurant. Mary E's Kitchen was open for 3 years and was widely known for its delicious mouth-watering homemade rolls and amazing peach cobbler.

Dorothy had a passion for gardening, which was passed down for generations. She cultivated many vegetables in her back yard, along with peach and pecan trees.

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8) was Mrs. Anderson's favorite scripture. On March 10, 2015 Dorothy Nell Anderson transitioned from her earthly body to her heavenly body, where she now can behold His face.

Dorothy Nell Anderson was preceded in death by her parents Orange and Mary Easley; her husband, Leon Anderson, Sr.; a son Leon Anderson, Jr.; a grandson Sam Higgins, Jr.; a great-grandson Terence Higgins; and three siblings: Margaret Evans, Irey Woods, and Wilbert Easley.

She is lovingly remembered and leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, Sam Higgins, Sr.; Barry Anderson (Gina); Arthur Anderson (Joyce); and Richie Anderson (Beverly); and two daughters: Mary Scott (Donnie); and Dyann Shelvin (Richard); 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Due to the ongoing renovations at King-Tears Mortuary, flowers may be delivered to the Church of the New Testament on Friday, March 20 .
