Norman Winford Bacon, Jr. the son of Norman Winford Bacon, Sr. and Elmira Bacon was born July 5, 1927 in Linden, Texas. He attended the Elementary and Secondary schools in Linden, Texas. He attended the Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He was fondly called "Rooster."

He married Sarah Lee Johnson. To this union two daughters were born; Norma Jean and Janice Marie Bacon and two sons; Vernon Charles and Norman Winford Bacon, III.

Reverend Bacon preached his first sermon and was licensed to preach on September 10, 1954 at the Riverside Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

On August 15, 1966 the torch of leadership of the historic Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church was accepted by Reverend N. W. Bacon, Jr. He served as pastor for 33 years. He preached his last pastoral sermon on September 10, 1999.

He served as District Recording Secretary of the Saint John Regular Baptist Association; State President of the Central Area Missionary Baptist Convention of Texas. He was as a member of the Evangelism Board of The National Baptist Convention of America. He was a member of the World Hope Foundation. He traveled to Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Canada, and the Holy Land while serving as a Board Member of the World Hope Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Winford, Sr. and Elmira Bacon; his wife, Sarah Bacon; one daughter, Janice Marie Bacon; and one granddaughter, Valerie Bacon.

Reverend Bacon entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the St. David South Austin Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, Vernon Charles (Robina) and Norman Bacon, III; one daughter, Norma Jean Carothers, nine grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services entrusted to A Life Celebration by Franklin, Taylor, Texas.

Flowers may be delivered to Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Friday, December 12, 2014, 3-7 pm.
