Helen Holmes was born in Bloomington, Texas on April 24, 1947. She is the daughter of Ninetia E. Brown-Yarbrough and Frank H. Yarbrough. Helen attended various schools all over the world as her father served his country in the United States Army services.

Helen united with the St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.M. Franklin then followed her brother, Reverend Lee Yarbrough to Mt. Pilgrim and Neighborhood Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She was a very faithful member who loved being a part of mission and serving on other various church auxiliaries.

Helen was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved and cared for each of her family members. She always enjoyed traveling with her family. Some of her fondest memories were traveling to Germany, Italy and other countries, although, she traveled all over, one of her favorite places happened to be Albuquerque, New Mexico. Helen dedicated twenty years to Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. She had many hobbies to include bowling with her husband, shopping, interior decorating, party planning, celebrating and enjoying great food. Helen was known to be the life of any family function. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

On November 28, 2014, Helen left this earth to join her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Holmes, mother, Ninetia Yarbrough and her daughter, Trazell Yarbrough.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Frank Yarbrough; her daughters, Thelma Haywood and Teressa Yarbrough-Hickson; two loving son in laws, Kevin Haywood and Josh Hickson; eight grandchildren, Tiarra Huff, Joia Nesby, Kevin Haywood, Jr., Deanna Mitchell (Andre), Jamika Green, Christopher Yarbrough, Jeremiah Haywood and Jamiya Hickson; four great-grandchildren, Janiyah Huff, Jaslyin and Elijah Haywood and Genesis Mitchell. She leaves to cherish four brothers, Rev. Lee (Tonya) Yarbrough, LaFrance (Mittie) Yarbrough, LaRance Yarbrough and Rev. LaVon Yarbrough. She also leaves to cherish aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Due to extensive renovations at King-Tears Mortuary, flowers may be delivered to Phillips Upshaw Richard Funeral Home, 1410 E. 12th Street, Austin, TX on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014
